What Are The Side Effects Of Dermaroller?

Who doesn’t wish to look beautiful? We try all sorts of products, undergo painful procedures, stick to boring diets, all in the name of beauty. But they are carrying a number of potential side effects and it is always a good idea to make sure you are aware of them before proceeding with any product or treatment. Microneedling is also associated with some side effects, that can be prevented. However, the question raised often by most individuals is whether to buy a dermaroller or not because of the side effects. But here’s the thing the derma roller should not cause any serious side effects if used properly. It is much safer than other skin rejuvenating treatment options like chemical peels, laser, and surgery.

So, what are the side effects associated with dermaroller? A dermaroller is an amazing tool that is designed for skin regeneration. Derma roller is quite an amazing beauty tool, especially for skin regeneration. Derma roller treatments reduce stretch marks, fine lines, acne scars,  wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, and sun damage. It also increases the absorption of skin-care products applied topically.  The side effects associated with dermaroller are usually mild, not serious. These include some redness, dryness, and irritation. However, it can cause some serious side effects if not used properly.

Skin redness

It is the most common and normal reaction that is experienced when using a derma roller. It usually disappears within a few hours. The best way to deal with redness is to do microneedling at night before sleep. In most cases, your skin will be back in the morning. You can also use a cooling cream or ice to overcome any discomfort in regard to this issue.

Dry, rough skin

A very common but a harmless side effect of derma roller treatment. It will continue for a few days at most but don’t worry a simple good moisturizer will help.

It may occur in people with sensitive skin. So, if you have sensitive skin, avoid using longer needles and don’t apply pressure while rolling. Dermarolling is usually accompanied by minor inflammation but doesn’t worry it will subside within a few hours. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure for a few days and apply sunblock afterward.

Most of these are caused by the improper use of dermaroller and may also occur if you have sensitive skin. These include bleeding, acne, pain, bruising, temporary hyperpigmentation, and skin irritation.

  • Pain is very normal in microneedling therapy. But most people find this tolerable. The level of the pain depends upon a number of factors, including the needle length, amount of pressure applied individual pain tolerance, and skin sensitivity. You can also use a numbing cream or ice if you find the pain unbearable.

Temporary Bleeding:

  • Temporary bleeding may occur when rolling aggressively with longer needle lengths. Don’t worry, after a few hours of dermarolling the bleeding will stop. The blood spots can be washed with lukewarm water. It is better to apply less pressure while dermarolling to prevent bleeding.

Skin Bruising:

  •  Using long needles on thin skin or rolling too aggressively can cause temporary bruising. Make sure to choose the correct needle length. Apply moderate pressure only.

Scratched Skin:

  • By using a lot of force while dermarolling and repeated rolling without lifting the derma roller after each roll can lead to scratched skin. Avoid these to prevent scratched skin.

Skin Itching/irritation:

  • Individuals with hypersensitive skin rarely experience skin itching and a skin rash with raised bumps after dermarolling. Though it is an uncommon situation it will clear up on its own.
  • Do not use a dermaroller if you have active acne because micro needling will spread bacteria over the face skin making the acne worse.

  • Hyperpigmentation can occur in dark-skinned individuals. It can occur if the skin is exposed to the sun too soon after derma rolling. Avoid direct sun contact for a few days for few days. Protect your skin with sunscreen.
