How to use derma roller to increase skin care products effectiveness

How to use derma roller to increase skin care products effectiveness

Only up to 4% of active ingredients from applied skin care products penetrate into the skin, the rest of them are stuck on the surface and get simply wasted. Derma roller’s fine needles create micro channels, which allow active ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin.

In this article you will find out exactly (and step by step) how to use derma roller to increase the skin care products absorption.

How derma roller maximizes the skin care products effectiveness

A derma roller has hundreds of tiny micro-needles that create tiny punctures in the skin, pushing the pores open for a short period of time.

Right after microneedling you should apply the skin care products – now the active ingredients will be able to absorb deeper to skin.

If the active ingredients reach the lower layers of the skin, they’ll be able to be more effective when influencing your skin functions.

What you need to maximize skin care products effectiveness

  • Cleansing gel / milk / wash & skin toner for cleansing & preparing your skin for the microneedling.

  • 0.2 mm dermaroller for microneedling your skin before applying the skin care products.

  • Selected skin care products like facial mask, serum & moisturizing cream. These should enhance your skin functions whether they are sebum reducing, cell renewal, anti-aging, brightening or with any other benefits.

  • Sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV damage.

  • Disinfecting alcohol to clean the derma roller after every rolling.

How to use derma roller step by step

Step 1 Preparing & cleansing skin

Create sterile environment.

Wash your hands & table or any other surface you are placing the products used in microneedling process. Place everything on a clean paper towel.

Cleanse all traces of make-up and dirt from the skin with cleansing gel/milk/wash, wash with warm water & normalize your skin healthy pH with skin toner.

Step 2 Disinfecting dermaroller

The first time you use the dermaroller it comes sterile from factory so you don’t have to disinfect it.

Any other times it is necessary to disinfect the dermaroller by soaking it in to alcohol for few minutes before rolling. It’s not necessary for keeping it longer in alcohol before rolling as after rolling roller is always disinfected thoroughly.

Step 3 Microneedling the skin

Start rolling the skin, by dividing it to smaller sections so it will be easier to cover all skin with even needling pattern. Apply moderate pressure, you don’t have to apply a lot of force.

Roll <—-> forward & back to one direction for whole area, slightly move the roller to the side until cover one section, then move to another section, until whole skin has been rolled to one direction.

Repeat 4-5 times rolling up over the whole area.

  • Simply roll forward <-> back, forward <-> back 4-5 times.
  • Then lift roller up, slightly move to the side & then roll forward <-> back again.

Step 4 Place dermaroller on paper towel

Place dermaroller on it’s side to paper towel until disinfecting it after applying skin care products.

Apply skin care products, if you’d like to use multiple products, then follow these steps

1st Facial mask – leave it on for 10-15 minutes (follow the instructions on mask packing)

2nd Skin serum – apply serum & massage skin gently until completely absorbed to skin.

3rd Moisturizing cream – apply your favorite skin cream to keep your skin hydrated.

4th Always apply sunscreen if you plan leaving indoors.

After taking care of your skin, it’s time to disinfect dermaroller & store it safely

1st Rinse dermaroller under hot running water for 1 minute &

2nd Place it gently (!) into cup filled with disinfecting alcohol (let it soak for 15 minutes).

3rd Take dermaroller out and place it on paper towel & let air dry.

Taking care of your skin after microneedling

Protect your skin

Use minimum SPF30 sunscreen for atleast first weeks after every dermaroller use. We recommend using sunscreen at all times when leaving indoors to protect skin from harmful UV damage. Using sunscreen every day helps to keep your skin youthful & prevent aging.

Sunscreen is not just a beauty product, but it is a necessity for healthy and young-looking skin.

Moisturize your skin

The skin needs moisture to repair and renew itself. It needs to be hydrated either internally or topically to be soft, supple and smooth. Moisturizing regularly, especially during the winter months, can prevent the itching and flaking caused by dry skin.

Keeping your skin well hydrated helps to fight dryness, balance skin tone and improve skin texture.
